Dog Agility Classes in NYC

You’ve seen it on Animal Planet and ESPN…teach your dog to crawl through tunnels, walk across a see-saw, jump through hoops, leap over hurdles and more! Dog Agility consists of guiding dogs correctly and rapidly through a series of obstacles under the guidance of their handlers and is one of the fastest growing dog sports in the United States. Fun for participants and spectators, the sport has received increasing exposure in the media thereby increasing its popularity. Dog agility classes strengthen the bond between you and your dog, teach teamwork and are a great way for you and your dog to have a blast!

Classes are small and each team works at their individual pace. All classes take place at Animal Haven’s 2,500 square foot facility in lower Manhattan at 251 Centre St. (Soho).

Introduction to Agility (90 minutes):

The focus is on introducing the obstacles of agility as well as handling skills in a positive way that is fun for both dog and handler. Open to dogs of any age with no or limited agility experience. The focus is on introducing the obstacles of dog agility (such as Tunnels, A-Frame, Dog Walk, Jumps, Tire, etc.) as well as handling skills, in a positive way that is fun for both dog and handler. Obedience commands that are used in agility such as sit, down, stay and come will also be reviewed. This is an hour-and-a half class offered at various times throughout the year. Beginner Agility and Manners (6 one hour classes):

Beginner Level is open to dogs of any age with no prior agility experience. Introduction to the basics in obstacle performance, foundation jump training, target training, directionals and handling fundamentals. Obedience commands such as sit, down and stay will also be reviewed. This class is 6 hour sessions offered at various times throughout the year. The cost is $350 per dog / handler team. Advanced Beginner Agility (6 one hour classes):

Advanced Beginner Level is appropriate for dog / handler teams that have been through Beginner Level. This class will cover more detailed information regarding obstacle training, contact training, weave poles, sequencing, obstacle independence and handling. Instructor approval required for participation in this class. Dog / handler teams need to be proficient on all obstacles including weave poles. Advanced level handling and complex sequences will be the focus of this class This class is 6 hour sessions offered at various times throughout the year. The cost is $350 per dog / handler team.
