Join the Andrea Arden Dog Training Team!
Dog training is a very rewarding career. It’s important to remember that dog training is a service profession in which you will be working with people who have dogs. You are working with animals – but you are primarily working with people.
We strongly recommend that you read the excellent book, “So You Want to be a Dog Trainer” (2nd Edition), by Nicole Wilde. It contains a wealth of information from a professional dog trainer for any aspiring dog trainer. Volunteering with shelters and local rescue will also introduce you to a range of canine personalities and breeds.
Apprenticeship to become a dog trainer is a long term commitment but the length of time to complete this apprenticeship is dependent on student dedication. There is no formal apprenticeship system in dog training, but the opportunity to work with experienced dog trainers and a large variety of dogs is essential to your education. To be sure that dog training is the right career choice for you, working part-time or full-time job in another position should be considered while you complete our program. The program will guide the serious student through all of the aspects of positive dog training.
Currently certified instructors applying for a position should be knowledgeable about clicker training, use positive dog training methods and be committed to those, interested in continuing to attain knowledge in the dog training profession and view teaching classes and private instruction as a partnership between trainer and student – and love dogs!
