She is the creator of a first of it’s kind, after school class for kindergarten and elementary schoolchildren about dogs. Katrina also has a special interest in homeless animals and is the Director of Behavior and Training at Animal Haven Shelter in Manhattan.
Katrina graduated with honors and earned a degree in Psychology with an emphasis on animal behavior from Long Island University. She was a volunteer for the League of Animal Welfare in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1999 to 2005 and an assistant manager at Apple Creek Stables in Ohio, where she designed course plans and instructed all levels of classes. While studying in Thailand, India, and Romania she conducted an international independent study on stray dogs. She has applied her impressive understanding of animal behavior and training skills to a wide range of animals including dogs, horses, and even guinea pigs!
Both of her dogs Stella, a 5 pound Brussels Griffon, and Maeby, a 35 pound Brittany mix, are rescues who compete with Katrina in AKC and USDAA agility trials. Most recently, Stella qualified for the 2010 USDAA Nationals and Maeby is showing great promise as she begins her agility career.
